PRICE ROAD CORRIDOR
ONLINE OPEN HOUSE
As of March 28, 2017, SRP resumed the project to bring needed power lines to the Price Road Corridor that reflects a reduced load forecast and changes in the City of Chandler's General Plan for the area.
SRP plans to bring a new double circuit 230 kV power line from the Knox substation in Chandler to a 230 kV substation site, identified as RS-27, located in the northern section of the Price Road Corridor. The proposed route will run east from the Knox substation, primarily on the south side of the Loop 202, to the north-west portion of the Price Road Corridor.
On April 25, 2017, SRP held the first of its public open house meetings to gather input on route alternatives for our double circuit 230 kV steel pole transmission line within the project's reduced scope to connect the Knox substation, located north of Pecos Road west of 56th Street, with the new RS-27 230 kV substation on SRP property at the intersection of Germann and Price roads, adjacent to Gila River Indian Community land. This site was identified for the future substation during an earlier public process.
SRP held the second project open house on June 1, 2017. View route maps presented on June 1 and maps from previous open house meetings.
SRP and the City of Chandler reached an agreement on a proposed route alternative for the final segment of the new transmission line. Portions of the route will be constructed underground with the City of Chandler paying the difference between building the line overhead – SRP's standard – and the added cost of putting them underground.
Final CEC approval
On June 13, 2017, SRP filed an application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) for a new 4.8-mile line from the Knox substation to a new RS-27 substation.
The Arizona Power Plant and Line Siting Committee held public hearings July 24–25 and recommended approval of the CEC application. The ACC granted approval of a CEC for the project on Sept. 12. The approval, by unanimous vote, is the final step of the application process and enables SRP to move forward with project construction.
