Discover how electric system upgrades in Chandler will enhance reliability and help support the area’s growing economy.

The Price Road Corridor project is now in-service as of April 26, 2021.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Price Road Corridor is a five-square-mile area of Chandler and one of Arizona's fastest-growing economic hubs — a thriving employment center for advanced business services, life sciences, aerospace and more that are expected to provide thousands of new jobs.

To maintain reliable electric service in this area and to meet forecasted energy demand, SRP will bring a new double circuit 230-kilovolt (kV) power line from its Knox substation in Chandler to a 230 kV substation site, identified as RS-27, located in the northern section of the Price Road Corridor. The proposed route will run east from the Knox substation, primarily on the south side of the Loop 202, to the north-west portion of the Price Road Corridor.

SRP resumed the project with route considerations that reflect a reduced load forecast and changes to the City of Chandler's General Plan for the area.

FINAL APPROVAL

On June 13, 2017, following two public open houses, SRP filed an application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) for 4.8 miles of new overhead transmission line from the Knox substation to a new RS-27 substation, generally along the south side of the Loop 202 and then adjacent to the Gila River Indian Community boundary north of the substation site. The remainder of the project is planned to be underground. This filing concluded SRP's public process.

The Arizona Power Plant and Line Siting Committee held public hearings July 24–25 and recommended approval of the CEC application. The ACC granted approval of a CEC for the project on Sept. 12, 2017. The approval, by unanimous vote, is the final step of the application process and enables SRP to move forward with project construction.
